In 1996 North Somerset was formed as a result of local government reorganisation, which split the County of Avon region in to four Authority areas. These four areas are now known as South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, and the City of Bristol.
North Somerset is placed South West of Bristol, City of, and has a population of almost 189,000.
