In 1996 South Gloucestershire was formed as a result of local government reorganisation, which split the County of Avon region in to four Authority areas. These four areas are now known as South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, and the City of Bristol.
South Gloucestershire is placed north of the City of Bristol and has a population of nearly 250,000.
